CBI Portfolio Company, Trainikins, Inc., Partners with Children’s Miracle Network Arrangement will facilitate distribution of CPR Teddy™ to over 170 Hospitals in the U.S. and Canada FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Media Contact: Melissa Waugh, President Trainikins, Inc. Roanoke, VA (June 8, 2006) The Carilion Biomedical Institute (CBI) is pleased to announce that Trainikins Inc., has partnered with our local Children’s Miracle Network (CMN) affiliate to make CPR Teddy™ available to over 170 CMN hospitals in the U.S. and Canada. CPR Teddy™ is the latest innovation in CPR practice aids. Parents, grandparents, and childcare providers can now practice Infant and Child Choking Rescue and CPR skills on this endearing bear. Squeeze his paw, and a voice tells you what to do if a baby or child is choking, and then what to do if the baby or child loses consciousness. Lights in the bear’s bowtie tell if you are pressing the chest too hard, too soft, or just right. You can even see the chest rise when practicing rescue breaths. Knowing that few people remember CPR after taking a class, Trainikins’ founders wanted to create a practice aid that is inexpensive, non-threatening, and easy to use, but that also would be left out in the home and seen on a regular basis. They believed that if people could see the device, they would get an immediate memory prompt about CPR, but they may also pick it up and practice with it more often. The bear could also be used to review these life-saving skills with a babysitter before leaving a child in their care. Trainikins is a subsidiary of Elcare Innovations, Inc., which focuses on the development and commercialization of emergency medical devices. Children's Miracle Network is the alliance of premier children's hospitals throughout the United States and Canada committed to providing the best medical care possible for babies, infants and children in their local communities. This is a win-win relationship for both Trainikins and our local CMN hospitals. Net proceeds from each CPR Teddy sold to CMN hospitals in the U.S. and Canada will go to our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals – Virginia Baptist Hospital in Lynchburg and Carilion Roanoke Community Hospital in Roanoke. I am so glad that my company’s product will help support projects that are truly beneficial to our local community while saving children’s lives in the U.S. and abroad”, states Melissa Waugh, President, Trainikins, Inc. The local Children’s Miracle Network affiliate is thrilled with this opportunity to partner with Trainikins. This will help parents and child caregivers throughout North America stay current on their infant/child CPR and choking first aid skills as well as make a real difference in the medical treatment of babies and children in Central, Southside and Southwestern Virginia, stated Jack Whisler, President of the local Children’s Miracle Network affiliate. All revenues from distribution of CPR Teddy will remain locally to provide critical medical equipment for our hospitals, such as the lastest hi-tech isolettes to keep prematurely born babies alive until they can survive on their own, advanced heart and body-function monitors, special cribs, pediatric resuscitation equipment and many other items. Funds also provide specially equipped neonatal/pediatric ambulances for both hospitals for emergency transportation from outlying areas. Recreational items are also supplied to make children’s hospital stays friendlier, and special services are provided to help seriously ill children and their families get through difficult hospitalizations. This is a tremendous relationship for Trainikins. CBI invested funds into this company because we saw management’s ability and passion to get an early-stage Roanoke company off the ground. Trainikins’ relationship with CMN is another example of management’s ability to execute on its strategy. We are quite pleased with the company’s early results thus far including the opportunity with Children’s Miracle Network and other great arrangements that the company has in the works. I can’t say enough positives about this company,” states Daniel Barchi, President, Carilion Biomedical Institute. In addition to capital, CBI has helped the company to locate office space, hire employees, locate local design and manufacturing resources, has made introductions to local customers and has provided advice on sales, grant writing, marketing and product development. CBI is currently working with Trainikins to identify angel investment partners and other funding opportunities.
