Daniel J. Barchi

President and Chief Executive Officer



Daniel Barchi is President and CEO of the Carilion Biomedical Institute.

Daniel was formerly Director of Technology and Engineering for WorldCom, Inc. where he managed global data center strategy and managed two subsidiary companies in the transportation industry. Earlier, Daniel was MCI's Director of Global Project Management where he managed an international team of product deployment specialists.   

Daniel was formerly a U.S. Naval officer and served at sea in cruisers.  He traveled globally managing operations of communications and sonar equipment, and he developed fleet-wide tactics for Air Warfare. During his service, he was awarded the Navy Commendation Medal, the Navy Achievement Medal, the Southeast Asia Service Medal for service in the Red Sea, and the NATO Service Medal for operations in the Balkans.

Daniel is on the boards for the NewVa Corridor Technology Council (NCTC), the Virginia Biotechnology Association, the Southwest Virginia Second Harvest Food Bank, Southeast BIO and the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Daniel is certified as a Professional Manager of Projects (PMP) by the Project Management Institute and holds a Master of Engineering Management from Old Dominion University and a Bachelor of Science from Annapolis, the U.S. Naval Academy.
